Thanks to Chad Hunt and the Sanford Pentagon for hosting the CTE Media Arts students. Students were able to
operate the game day production equipment as well as be the players. Our students were introduced just like the starting line-up and we are just as proud of them!

The AOF program visited Premier Center this week to learn about the Entertianment Business Industry. Exciting to learn how events not only affect the venue but how it impacts our community with shopping, hotels, and restaurants. The Premier Center is very popular for smaller events and will be focusing on new renovation to the Arena to be able to host larger events in the future. Thank you to Heather, Stu and Blake for taking the time to show us how important customer services is for more artist and events to want to come to Sioux Falls!

Intro to Media Arts class was happy to welcome Donna Herbel from Red Cardinal Insurance for a logo pitch. The students have been challenged to create a professional level logo for the new company. Stay tuned to see their final creations!"

Another part of the CTE experience is preparing and exposing students to career fairs. Students taking classes at the CTE Academy, regardless of grade level, are given the opportunity to attend a career fair offered right at the CTE Academy.
This year, in addition to being offered to all CTE students, the experience was also extended to students at Joe Foss and Jefferson High School, as well as students part of the RHS JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates - more on that program coming tomorrow!) pilot program. There were just over 50 businesses represented and 15 unique colleges. Staff prepared students for the experience by modeling appropriate career fair behavior, helping students prepare questions for vendors, and reviewing the list of attendees for students to make a plan of who they would like to talk with. The businesses in attendance were given table cards to represent ways students could engage with their business (job shadow, internship, employment, apprenticeship) which helped students identify which businesses may offer an experience a student is looking for.

Principles of Biomed students visited Sanford Research to learn about cancer. Students analyzed DNA samples to determine if the cancer genes were present in all cells or just the tumor cells.

Mark your calendars! The last day of school will be Wednesday, May 25th, 2022.
The Sioux Falls School Board approved a recommendation at their meeting tonight to move the last day of school from Tuesday, May 24, 2022 to Wednesday, May 25, 2022 due to the one day of school missed for inclement weather in December.

Cybersecurity students took a break from catching bad guys to “printing” bad guys (Pac-man ghosts). During last week’s Junior testing at the high schools, students learned how to make their own GCode files to make pancakes.

Friday ended with the CTE Academy staff celebrating our very own Mr. Ryswyk for Assistant Principal’s Week! He goes above and beyond to create such a positive experience for our students and staff at CTE. Thank you for everything you do at the CTE Academy Mr. Rsywyk!

Robotics students took their lesson to a higher level with imagination and creativity. The goal was to place a designated object on a higher elevation utilizing the gripper effector. Students created a method to lift the front of the robot to a higher level to place said object on a platform.
Great work Robotics students!

Mr. Opdahl’s cabinetry students took an idea for their desk and ran with it. Industrial bars and an epoxy coating; what talented students we have at the CTE Academy.

Biomed 2 students visited the University of South Dakota to learn about health professions including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language pathology, nursing, emergency medicine, and medical lab science. Thank you to the USD instructors and students for helping us explore our future career options.

Over the lunch hour today, Mrs. Brunken was awarded the seventh Public School Proud Grant. Penny received $1,448.75 for her grant, “Accounting Leadership.” She will use funds to purchase QuickBooks online for students in the Academy of Finance. Businesses of all sizes are using QuickBooks to drive cost efficiencies, better enable a mobile workforce, and improve alignment with customers and vendors. With this grant, students will learn the value of a computerized accounting information system and how it can be used to communicate vital information to business owners, investors, and creditors. Thank you, First PREMIER Bank, for sponsoring grants like these! Congrats Mrs. Brunken!
