Before their winter party, the students in 401 made winter care kits for people in need. Each student packed a two-gallon bag with a card of encouragement and items to help make someone's day just a little easier to get through, such as hand warmers, hats, gloves, socks, food items, waters, sweet treats and more! During this season we wanted to give students the opportunity to experience the joy found in giving to others.

Today students celebrated our Nov/ Dec SOAR slip challenge. The goal was 8,000 SOAR slips. Students at Terry Redlin DOUBLED the goal! Students celebrated with a holiday read aloud with a sweet treat and a pajama day! #SOAR

Today is a beautiful December day, but we know it can't last forever in South Dakota! Make sure you and your student(s) know how to access Canvas for remote learning when weather that keeps kids home can be predicted in advance.

"Leo" with the SFPD made a surprise stop yesterday!

It is Terry Redlin Book Swap time! Students can donate gently used books they no longer need or want until December 10th. Then during library December 14th through the 19th, students are able to browse the gently used books and make their 'new to them' book selection. Ask your child about it today!

IMPORTANT SCHOOL Meal Info:
Growing debt from unpaid meals is forcing the Sioux Falls School District to make fiscally responsible changes. On Friday, December 1, 2023, all negative meal accounts will be reset to a zero balance thanks to generous donors. Starting Monday, December 4, the District will be enforcing school board policy. When an account has any amount of negative balance, breakfast will not be able to be charged. Once an account reaches a negative (-)$20 balance, the student will be offered a Smart Snack and a milk rather than a hot lunch and $1 will be charged each time to the student account. Once an account reaches a negative (-)$75 balance, no Smart Snack or meal can be served.
If you haven’t completed a Free/Reduced Meal Application this school year, but believe you may qualify, immediate action is requested. Those who apply, but are denied between today and December 1, 2023 MAY still qualify for incremental assistance if additional funds become available.

2nd graders in 203 learned about the engineer who created big balloons that you see at parades. They got to design their own balloon and create it. The whole class and other adults in the building voted on their favorite balloon! We have some great engineers in 203.

5th grade is working on Monochromatic Landscapes in Art. They pick one color and use white to make tints. Next time they will use black to make shades.
