Third graders spent the last day before winter break building and decorating candy houses! This is another JFK tradition that goes back many years--the students construct the houses with graham crackers, cover it in frosting, and decorate to their heart's content.
Here are some more 3rd graders working hard on their candy houses!

SFSD schools start 2-hrs late Thursday, January 5, 2023.

Due to the amount of snow that fell with this winter storm and the time it will take for plows to get into residential neighborhoods, there will be No School, no practices and no activities tomorrow – Wednesday, January 4, 2023. District and school offices will be open.

In addition to there being NO SCHOOL today, an update now includes that SFSD Offices will also be closed on Tuesday, Jan 3, 2023.
No School for the Sioux Falls School District on Friday, Dec 16, due to weather.

Friday is Grinch Day! Dress in your best Grinchy green!

Reminder: Wear your favorite festive hat to school on Wednesday for Festive Hat Day!

Our weather is unpredictable at times! Here is a quick visual guide of what students should have with them for recess each day, based on the conditions.

And with a blink of an eye, we are already a quarter way through the 2022-2023 school year! The second quarter is here, and it’s a busy one! While this time of year tends to get chaotic, it’s important to remember how crucial student attendance is. Chronic absenteeism is a serious problem in South Dakota - a problem SFSD is committed to improving. Missing just two days a month can hurt a student’s grades and increase their chance of dropping out. Make sure your student is on the path to a bright future – and that starts in the classroom!

In an effort to provide a convenient, one-stop location for all information regarding the school lunch program, we have created a School Meal Payment Guide. In it, you will find links to the Parent Portal for the Free/Reduced lunch app, information on creating an account on My School Bucks, and links to the daily lunch menus. Check it out! https://www.smore.com/5ub7j
Over the summer, all classrooms at JFK were upgraded to new Viewsonic interactive viewboards. Teachers were trained before school started on how to use them, and now, students are getting the chance to use them as well! Mrs. Mellegaard's students were excited to get to use the Viewsonic board last week to practice the math skills they have been learning in class.
